passions of intellect-part 2
Passion of intellect part 2 We were met at the train station by her parents. They were slightly older than me but very cordial with handshakes and hugs. Her mother was pleasantly plump like herself and her father was short and stocky like me. I was put in the front seat with her father, and she rode in the back with her mother. We headed out of boston toward Andover . He took over the conversation by stating he studied my vita and was impressed with what I had done and written over about a forty year period, he traced much of the business over the last 30 years from the web and said they needed my kind back in academia. He had gotten to be a dean and provost at the small college where he was still active. His daughter went there and then on to graduate school at Radcliff—the last of the Cliffies. She chose classics early on and did well enough to get a job first as a teaching fellow then stepped up to her present tenured faculty position. Her father taught math, logic, latin, and a philosophy course called rational studies. Her mother taught greek and spent a good part of her time arranging social events required of the administration. Most students commuted and few stayed around for week-ends. They had library priviledges at the nearby larger schools and were sent to them for many lab-based science courses. We arrived at their condo in a retirement community attached to the college campus where members had library, athletic, meal and classroom privileges. Her father had a big role in establishing the facility and acknowledged that it save the school financially. It was spacious, and momma informed us we would have the upstairs apartment suite. It had a large sitting area with a small single bed and a spacious bed-room and bath. I put my bags by the sleeping alcove in the sitting area and she moved hers into the bedroom. This is the closest to our spending a night together since we met. While we were talking in the sunroom downstairs momma was up and down with towels and such. I went up to freshen up before dinner and found all my stuff had been moved to the bedroom, and hung up in the closets or put into the dresser. She came up shortly afterward to freshen up and found she had been similarly attended to. I was stunned and asked about it. she said momma thought we'd been intimately involved all along and we could not let her down. She went into her dressing area and I to mine and when we came out I was overwhelmed; a blue empire waisted halter dress on a woman I only saw previously in slacks and sweaters. She knew how to be pretty. I held out my arms and she folded into them almost trembling. She said her home with her parents was the only place she felt love and warmth; all else was professional work. I was lost for words but said something like thank you for sharing it with me. Both of us were trembling and looking into each others eyes. I held her chin and kissed her lightly on the lips. It was awkward learning how to kiss again for both of us. She stepped back and asked hoe she looked. her bra looked out of place so I suggested she take it off. She stepped back from the dressing closet held up her arms and said ‘I feel free—liberated!!!' for the first time I saw her unbridled beauty in her slightly twisted cleavage and breasts. I went to a box in my luggage, took out a gem stone pendent and put it on her; she looked in the mirror while I stood behind her. It looked fine. She put her hand on it and said its something special to you isn't it? I'll wear it if you'll tell me about it some time. I reached around her and pulled her back toward me. I felt a warmth and softness I've denied myself for years. She held the back of my hand as I moved them up and cupped her breasts. She turned, we hugged and kissed again. We held each other tighter and I instinctively ran my hand down her bottom and pulled her in closer. We slowly released and headed down stairs to dinner. The living room and large study off to the side was lined with book-shelves. She said she grew up with all these at the small group home study school her mother and others maintained on campus. Her social life was discussing books among the other girls and playing field hockey. She also wrote about her readings which got more disciplined as she took science and history courses and always sorry there was nothing to write about in math until she met me and Newton . Her papa came over and said the same until he got a copy of my book on waterbody dynamics with its software; she blushed when pappa said that's why he wanted me there because he needed some help setting up a nearby study case. She said okay poppa but a little at a time every day because I brought him her for rest and to enjoy my place of warmth and love. Dinner was prime rib sent in from the community kitchen. Momma arranged for a couple of servers so the four of us could enjoy dinner and conversation. Before dinner momma took daughter aside and applied lipstick and face powder. They both wore similar dresses that momma brought for the occasion. Poppa and I wore suits. Daughter reiterated her schedule of five weeks of purely professional effort while living out of the freezer and microwave then home to her place of warmth and love. Then it was back to the philly campus for five weeks to finish the semester. Then home for either the long winter holiday or for the summer. The train ride gave her time to make the transition from one place to another. Momma reminded her that she was home only for the first week of summer, a week in the middle when she brought home this guy Newton who only knew latin and only wrote geometric proofs of the theory of the universe, and the last week before the fall semester began. Pappa told about the college and how it grew out of the home school group. Young scholars were willing to come there at low salaries to get their children into the home school group and to teach college level courses for those ready for it. non-faculty families paid tuition for their children to attend. Some big giver provided money for a student center with cafeteria and dorm rooms for resident students. All the college level students had on-campus jobs. Other contributors and alumni giving was directed to scholarships. The administration size was kept to a minimum with most of it handled by students and faculty. We retreated to the living room where she curled up on the couch aside me with her arm slipped through mine. Momma asked if she wanted a Christmas tree now that she had someone here to share it with? It would be their first since a younger brother died at a very early age. She said we'd go into the village shopping tomorrow and decide then. She and momma headed off to bed. Pappa wanted to talk about his classes. He taught advanced calculus and was afraid it was stale until he found my book on the vita she had sent him. He found the chapter on setting up the finite difference relations quite good and held some evening seminars on it. students and faculty from other courses began to attend. One of them had a ‘quickbasic' routine they got by dropping me an e-mail which was soon on everyone's computer. They tried to make as much of their curriculum inter-disciplinary but felt we really succeeded with Newton and the Euclid . It was past 2am and I was exhausted from a very long and exhilarating day. I retired upstairs to the single bed in the sitting area.
